Saakashvili: ‘I Assume Full Responsibility’ Over What Has Happened
September 10, 2008
President Saakashvili reiterated on September 10, that it was Russia which started war and not Georgia.
Speaking at a meeting with the local administration in the town of Gori on September 10, Saakashvili also said he was assuming “full personal responsibility” over everything that led the country to the current situation.
“I want to state it with full responsibility: I am personally responsible and I assume full personal responsibility over each and every event that led us to [the current situation] and which preceded the Russia’s aggression against Georgia. I also assume full personal responsibility on how to rebuild [Georgia] and how to establish peace in Georgia,” Saakashvili said.
Saakashvili reiterated once again that he had handed over to French President Nicolas Sarkozy “incontrovertible evidence” proving that Russia was the first to start military intervention.
“Some people in Europe were proposing – with the hope to find something that could prove Georgia’s blame – establishment of the [international] investigative commission; it was me who said first: let’s set up investigative commission with involvement of serious international people… But as soon as we starting to talk about it loudly, some people got upset and now they are against of such an investigation,” he said.
He also called on the Parliament to study “in details all the aspects of the Russian aggression, including what has led us to this point and what should happen next in order to prevent reoccurrence of this kind of situation.
